Scarborough Waterfront Complex, Scarborough Tobago
The National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT), after much consideration, has made a decision, in the best interest of the Scarborough Waterfront Complex project and the people of Tobago, to revisit its approach on this project and conduct further feasibility studies and analysis to ensure Tobago gets the best option available in keeping with the Scarborough development thrust.
According to the executive director of the NIBTT, Niala Persad-Poliah, “The
additional analytical support will allow the NIBTT to receive requisite high
quality information to make the best decisions on this project and to
attract the most competitive tenders.”
Persad-Poliah was in Tobago, on Tuesday, February 3, to address staff at
NIBTT’s Tobago office and to meet with the Minister of Tobago Development,
Dr. Delmon Baker and Tobago House of Assembly Chief Administrator, Raye
Sandy.
The Scarborough Waterfront Complex will be a significant development in the
transformation of the economic landscape of Scarborough. Therefore, the
NIBTT must ensure it adopts the best approach to national development
projects.
The feedback garnered, over the last few months, will be utilised to ensure
an improved approach to the NIBTT’s project evaluation framework.
It is therefore imperative, in keeping with our tripartite mandate, and
commitment to consider all recommendations, technical and scientific, as
well as commercial and financial.
In this regard, the NIBTT now intends to extend the process for the award of
a contract for the design and build of the Scarborough Waterfront Complex.
NIBTT assures that all steps are being taken to advance the project, more
efficiently and effectively, in a time-sensitive manner; taking into
consideration the socioeconomic needs of the people and apologises for any
inconveniences caused to the people of Tobago.
This project is now expected to commence in mid 2015.
With effect from January 7th 2008, the Board may reject or revoke the registration of any person or entity applying for registration as an employer where the registration is as a result of fraud, misrepresentation, or mistake.
